Taking Digital Photographs – One step on

The introductory workshop helped you change your snapshots into photographs. It’s time to step up a notch and make your photographs into greatshots! You’ll discover what more of those settings do and their effect on a picture so you can create dramatic landscapes, impressive portraits, and engaging images.
These workshops are fun, participative, and practical — we spend some time in the college grounds taking great pictures.

If you’ve been on the Taking Digital Photographs – an introduction and want to learn more — this course is for you.

Do I need to be technically minded?

No, you don’t! This workshop is about taking better pictures with your digital camera. Participants come from many backgrounds and all ages.

What Kind of Digital Camera?

Any digital camera is suitable. But to get the best from the course your camera should have the so-called creative settings. These are usually labelled S A or Tv Av (in addition to the P and M modes).

What does the course cover?

This is a practical and hands-on workshop to help you take better pictures with your digital camera. The workshop includes:

• The not-so-humble zoom — it has a greater impact than you might think, and used correctly can dramatically change your image. We’ll be experimenting with real photos so you can see the impact for yourself.

• We look at the additional modes on your camera that enable you to freeze motion and how you can make your subject stand out from the background.

Practical time outside the classroom in the campus taking pictures of what we’ve covered. There are endless photographic scenes in the college grounds. And we learn a lot from sharing our results.

What do I need to bring with me?

The essentials are your digital camera and its associated bits and bobs that came in the box. You’ll receive a detailed list when you book your place.
And by the way -- you’ll need to bring a packed lunch.

About the tutor

The tutor is Alan Sarsby from Spectaris Ltd. He has been a keen photographer since his teenage years. He is an active member and former chairman of Diss and District Camera Club, and a photographic judge of the East Anglian Federation of Photographic Societies.
