Digital Photography with Photoshop - an introduction
You've taken a great digital photograph; the next step is to enhance it in the digital darkroom. This practical workshop introduces the basics of Photoshop, how it works and the essential tools for framing and adjusting images. Through a series of mini projects, you'll be creating dramatic effects and compositions with your pictures.
This is a beginner's course; you'll need to bring your own laptop with a licensed copy of Photoshop, and know the basics of your own computer.

Do I need to be technically minded?
No, you don’t! This workshop is about manipulating your digital images to produce interesting and creative images. Participants come from many backgrounds and ages.
Do I need to bring my own computer?
Yes, you do. You’ll need to bring your laptop with a licensed copy of Photoshop. (*) You could instead bring a luggable computer, for example one of the all-in-one iMacs or similar. But please note, the standard three-box computer setup is not suitable - there is too much time consuming set-up to do, and too many opportunities for things to go wrong.

- If you can copy or move a file from one location to another you should be fine.
- If you can copy a file from a USB stick to your internal hard drive, you should be fine.
- If you can open and save a file from your image editor (eg Photoshop) you’ll be ok.

What does the course cover?
(*) The demonstrations use Photoshop Elements. If you have a different version, for example Photoshop CS, the tools and principles all work in CS. We don't cover Lightroom.

About the tutor
The tutor is Alan Sarsby from Spectaris Ltd. He has been a keen photographer since his teenage years. He is an active member and former chairman of Diss and District Camera Club, and a photographic judge of the East Anglian Federation of Photographic Societies.
- You’re introduced to Photoshop’s tools and capabilities a bit at a time by working on a variety of mini projects. We provide image files so you get plenty of hands-on practice on your own computer.
- Each project adds more tools and skills to improve your images, create dramatic pictures, and produce stunning images and special effects. (See the examples overleaf.)
- The class size is small so you get the best help from the tutor.
